MalaMala Main Camp
MalaMala's Main Camp is set in the most picturesque setting along the banks of the Sand River. The camp blends innocuously with its surroundings having been thoughtfully designed, surrounded by manicured lawns and large shady trees. The African theme is predominant at the main camp, and the buildings are spacious ochre colored bungalows under thatch. Expansive decks provide elevated views of animals passing by the Sand River, so even when you are not on game drives, the wildlife experience stays with you whilst relaxing on the verandah or enjoying a cool swim. MalaMala provides a staff to guest ratio of 3 to 1, so personalized service is guaranteed.
Main Camp Meals
Breakfasts and lunches are served in a lovely air-conditioned dining room, which again has views overlooking the Sand River. Dinners are a special affair taken in the enclosed African Boma and are announced by the beating of drums. A huge central log fire adds to the atmosphere and the combination of exquisite food and wine and good company will add to your experience of Mala Mala game reserve.
Main Camp Rooms
Luxury is foremost at Main Camp, and one would be hard pressed to think of any additions which would improve on what is graciously provided. There are 25 luxury bedrooms, which include a disabled suite, suites and twins / doubles and family / triple rooms.
Main Camp Room Facilities
Each individually decorated room at Main Camp has a private viewing verandah, and two en-suite 'his' & 'her' bathrooms with a full range of guest amenities including shampoo, bath oil, lotions etc. The bathrooms have heated towel racks, electric shaver plugs and bath robes. The bedrooms are air-conditioned as well as having overhead fans, and are equipped with hair dryers, mini safes, purified water, bottled Mount Anderson Spring water and insect repellent. For your convenience, up to date magazines, and international direct-dial telephones are provided in the bedrooms. Each bedroom has a private verandah overlooking the surrounding bush and a mini bar. Room service is also provided.
Main Camp Lions Den
This is the most spacious and luxurious suite in Mala Mala with a large bedroom and spacious sitting room. The sliding doors open out onto a private verandah with its own magnificent views. There is a door to an inter-leading bedroom, which is opened when two bedrooms are required.
Main Camp Sable Unit
This is a camp within a camp, and consists of 10 rooms (doubles and twins) which offers all of the privacy and intimacy of an individual camp. The Sable Unit has its own lounge, boma, dining area, swimming pool and viewing deck, and is often reserved exclusively for a private party, as well as being open to bookings by independent guests.
Main Camp Disabled Suite
Whilst still having all of the same features of the standard rooms and suites as listed above, the disabled suite has ramps to the entrance, 24 hour temperature control and a separate bathroom in addition to the two en-suite bathrooms to accommodate a guest who is wheelchair bound. There is a wheel-in shower with all the necessary fittings, and a separate lounge area which can be converted to a bedroom if a disabled guest requires assistance with an accompanying nurse / aid. The suite has been extremely well designed, and there are no loose rugs or carpets, and the desk and table surfaces have been adjusted to the correct levels.
Main Camp Guest Areas
As well as the reed enclosed boma, there is a restaurant, a safari bar with a wide range of national and international beverages, a bush gymnasium, a sparkling swimming pool, a boutique, a wine cellar and The Monkey Club - a video den and library. Fax and e-mail facilities are available.
Main Camp Child Policy
Children under 12, sharing with an adult, pay 50% of the quoted adult tariff. Please note, no children of 5 years and younger are permitted in the boma for dinner, or on game drives (unless parent's have sole use of a vehicle). A babysitting facility is available at a nominal fee. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to stay at the Sable Unit.
