Durban is the perfect gateway to the whole of KwaZulu Natal, with traditional Zulu culture, wonderful game parks, the splendour of the Drakensberg Mountains, the amazing history of the Anglo-Boer, Anglo-Zulu battlefields, City tours, and the St Lucia Greater Wetlands Park, recently named as a World Heritage Site. Many short a tours are offered of the region, to aid the traveller with little time to spare.
On all game viewing tours we will provide you with binoculars if you do not have your own.

City of Durban & Valley of 1000 Hills

View the most historical and captivating sections of Durban, and the Victoria Street Market, before we wind our way up to Botha's Hill, where we will visit the traditional Zulu village Phe-Zulu for lunch. Tribal Dancing and a display of Zulu customs and folklore will be staged in front of the most spectacular viewpoint of the Valley of 1000 hills. We then proceed to the Assegai Safari Park, for a guided tour around the crocodile enclosures and a fine collection of venomous and non-venomous snakes of Natal.
Tala Game Ranch & Valley of 1000 Hills

A morning game drive is a must and a great opportunity to see wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, zebra, rhino and other smaller birds and mammals. We then depart for the Valley of 1000 Hills, for a visit to the Assegai Safari Park, for a guided tour of the crocodile enclosures, and the snake collection. We then visit "Phe-Zulu", a traditional Zulu village, for a cultural show, encompassing tribal songs and dances to the rhythm of drums and a tour of the village. We will be happy to take guests to the nearby Lion Park for a surcharge of R40.00pp.
Shakaland

For the most authentic experience of Zulu Culture, this tour is a must. We drive through sugar cane plantations and various historical landmarks to our destination "Shakaland". Thrill to the rhythm of the drums as the Zulus give you an amazing demonstration of traditional dances. You will learn about Zulu customs and lifestyles, and have an opportunity to taste zulu beer. For lunch, you can enjoy a hot or cold buffet which includes traditional zulu food. Hand-crafted goods and souvenirs are available to buy.
Scuba Dive at Aliwal Shoal
Departure : TBA when arranged - usually +/- 06h00
Duration : +/- 9 hours
You will be collected from your hotel or guest house in Durban, and transported in comfort to Umkomaas, Aliwal Shoal. You will have an hour to kit up and listen to the briefing from the divemaster, before boarding the boat. All dives are accompanied by an experienced divemaster. You can choose to have an instructor accompany your dive as your buddy for an extra R100.00 if you have not dived for a long time and feel you need the extra attention. After your first dive, enjoy a slap up breakfast before embarking on a second dive. There are many varied dive sites on the shoal, which offer some of the most unique diving worldwide. Some dives are suitable only for advanced divers, such as wrecks and cathedral, but there is definitely lots to please all. Return to Durban in the later afternoon.
Battlefields

We travel north through sugar cane plantations and rolling green hills en route to Zululand, passing the Tugela River, named Thukela by the Zulu's, "The Startling One". Once in Zululand you will see the historical sites of Isandlwana, Fugitives Drift and Rorke's Drift, where you will learn about the reasons for war, the dreadful battles that were fought in these areas, and about the many brave men on both sides.
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve

This is Africa's oldest game reserve, responsible for saving the white and black rhino from extinction. You will have a wonderful opportunity to see the Big 5; lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, as well as warthog, giraffe, cheetah, and various types of antelope in the oldest game reserve in Africa. There is a great abundance of birdlife in the reserve, as well as many small mammals too. We enjoy a full days game viewing with a break for lunch at Hilltop or in the bush, weather permitting. Cameras are essential to capture nature at its best.
St Lucia Estuary

After a scenic drive through Zululand to St Lucia we head for the estuary mouth as our first stop. A short hike through the game reserve gives you an opportunity to encounter various wildlife and birdlife. After lunch, relax on a boat ride to view crocs, hippos and the African fish eagle amongst many more species of birds. You'll learn about the delicate balance of 5 eco-systems in the area, and many facts about the large and small inhabitants of these regions, before our late afternoon drive back to Durban.
Sani Pass - Lesotho

We drive through the rolling hills of Kwa-Zulu Natal to the incredibly beautiful Drakensberg Mountains with its breathtaking views. We will then travel by 4 x 4 to the highest pass in Africa which takes you into the highlands of the Kingdom of Lesotho. We will visit the Sani top chalet which is one of the most isolated pubs in Africa. It is certainly the highest. The area is renowned for its incredible scenery, flora and birdlife. This is the home of the eland, the largest antelope in Africa, duikers, baboons and the rare bearded vulture. Passports are essential for entry into Lesotho, and jerseys, jeans and binoculars are must.
Giants Castle
07h00 departure, +/- 12hrs duration
Driving through the scenic Drakensberg range, we arrive at Giant's Castle for a half hour easy walk to see the Bushman paintings, whilst seeing incredible scenery and hopefully the rare bearded vulture amongst other small game species. After lunch at White Mountain, we make a scenic trip back to Durban via Mooi River. If time allows and spirits are eager, we make a stop at the towering Howick Falls en route.
