Hilltop Camp
Hilltop is the main camp in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park, and caters for budget travelers as well as for people looking for a bit more comfort and luxury. The Mpunyane Restaurant and the Uzavolo bar at Hilltop Camp cater for those who do not wish to self-cater. Hilltop camp has a rustic thatch design, which tastefully compliments the natural surroundings, and being at a high altitude, is cooler than most other areas of the reserve. At the main building, there is a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding areas, and is a wonderful place to try and spot the eagles and vultures of the reserve in flight.
Hilltop Camp Accommodation
Hilltop has 2 bed and 4 bed chalets which are very comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms and verandahs. The 4 bed chalets also come with a spacious lounge area. There are chalets with a kitchenette for those who prefer to self cater. There are also 2 bed rest huts for the budget traveler, with communal ablutions and a well equipped communal kitchen.
Seven two-bed chalets and 22 four-bed chalets each have a pull-out bed for an extra guest. There are 20 two-bed units, each with a bar fridge and tea/coffee facilities, and with en-suite bathrooms. Hilltop also has 20 rondavels which provide attractive value-for-money accommodation with communal kitchen and ablution facilities. A forest trail is available to guests at Hilltop Camp.
Hlaza Hide has been developed at the site of the old summerhouse in Hilltop Camp and it will shortly incorporate a waterhole with soft lighting at night to aid game viewing.
